MONA SHORES HIGH SCHOOL: 60
The Trojans fell in their first OK Black game of the season to Mona Shores by a score of 60-51. Fruitport fought back in the 4th quarter, cutting the Sailor lead to 2 points. Despite a great effort to come back, the Trojans could not get over the hump and take the lead late. Mona Shores executed well at the end and were able hold on for the win.
Eight Trojans got in the scoring column. Luke Mitchell led the way with 11 points, Gavin Fisher had 9, and Ethan Flores and Marcelo Conklin each scored 7 a piece. Matt Lord came off the bench to spark the Trojan run the 4th by hitting two big 3's, and ended the game with 6 points. Rico Jones and Cole Hoffman each scored 4, and Hunter Gannon had 2.
Coach Erny said: "The effort was there throughout the game tonight. We showed a winning attitude in the 2nd half as we scratched and clawed our way back in the game. Unfortunately our run faltered as we settled for a few two many rushed shots and could not clean up our defensive boards well enough to win.
"Despite the loss, the game was a step forward in a lot of ways for our team. We certainly will fix what we need to fix in practice, but we also need to continue to display the same type of grit and attitude that got us back in the game tonight."
Up next for Fruitport is Kenowa Hills, another OK Black opponent, on Tuesday night at 7 PM at HOME. Freshman play at 4 PM, and JV plays at 5:30 PM.
