Game Date
May 31, 2019
Score
TROJANS: 10
OPEN DATE: 9

Hannah Kelly headlined two days of great finals tennis for the Fruitport tennis team as the team finished 10th at the State Finals in Division 3. 4 singles player Hannah Kelly reached the championship match of the Division 3 state finals finishing runner-up to Cranbrook Kingswood. She had earlier victories over Detroit Country Day, Allegan, and a great semi-finals finish over Holland Christian to reach the finals. Hannah is the first Fruitport player to reach the championship match in Fruitport tennis history.

Also adding to the overall point total for the Trojans were #1 singles player Trinity Busscher with a win over Marysville and a loss to Grand Rapids Christian, #2 singles Haleigh Winksas with a win over Marysville and a default loss, #3 singles Olivia Parling with a win over Dearborn Divine Child and a loss to Cranbrook and #1 doubles, Emily Dirkse and Alison Blakeman with a win over Stevensville Lakeshore and an excitingly close loss to Grand Rapids Christian.

"The tennis team had an easy distraction Friday with senior graduation on the same day as the state finals. All our flights still played great tennis all day until it was time for our seniors to depart Novi to make it back for graduation. Even some of our early losses at 2 and 3 doubles were 6-4, 3rd set losses demonstrating we were battling right up till the end. It was unfortunate that some seniors did not go out on their own terms with graduation looming but, did pick up points for the team. The obvious highlight was Hannah Kelly's march to the finals. She played very intelligent tennis out maneuvering the opposition and using net play in attacking her opponents. We as a team should be very pleased with our 9 points and top ten finals finish. I know coach Tiefenbach, our assistant coach, and myself were more that excited with our play over the past two days." Coach Brad Busscher
